We’re Making Improvements

We're making improvements to the garden as well to provide the best possible experience to you. Our improvements Peony Garden Tokyo is a small part of a greater effort to bring attention to the cultural and agricultural heritage of Ibaraki and Tsukuba.
We look forward to sharing the beauty Peony Garden Tokyo with you. Every year we work to make our garden the best peony garden experience in the world. And even though we specialize in peonies, during the season we have Alpine rose, ancient kalmia trees, azaleas, rhododendron, and irises.
For bird lovers, our scenic crater lake in the middle of the garden is an oasis for birds like kingfisher and heron.

About Tsukuba and Ibaraki
Ibaraki is an agricultural Eden, but still many people don't know about the importance this prefecture plays in feeding Japan. Did you know that half of the LotusRoot (renkon) and almost a third of the Chinese cabbage (hakusai), chestnut (kuri) and melons that grow and are consumed in Japan comes from Ibaraki? This garden prefecture keeps the tables of the largest city in the world overflowing with fresh, healthy vegetables.
That’s why we’re proud to be a small part of bringing some much-deserved recognition to Ibaraki beginning with improvements to Peony Garden Tokyo. Over the next years leading up to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, we will continue to make improvements. But we want your help. Tell us what we can do to make this garden one of your favorite experiences.
Tsukuba is a great day trip for families. There’s a lot to see in Tsukuba. So once you’ve enjoyed the flowers at Peony Garden Tokyo, visit one of Tsukuba’s many other attractions.
